Located in the magical setting of Lake Como with its unforgettable views, Castello di Rossino is one of the oldest historical residences in Lombardy and is an evocative venue for weddings, corporate and private events. Surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery of Lake Como, just a stone’s throw from Milan and Brianza, it is an idyllic place to organise top quality private and corporate events that are guaranteed to be a resounding success. Rossino Castle stands on a promontory at the foot of Mount Resegone, overlooking “that leg of Lake Como” which was immortalised by Alessandro Manzoni and overlooks the picturesque Borgo di Rossino, a hamlet of Calolziocorte in Lecco.
Manzoni was indeed so fascinated by this residence that he made it the home of the infamous character Innominato in his novel “The Betrothed“.
The history of Castello di Rossino
Rossino Castle is a complex medieval structure surrounded by walls which is believed to have been erected before the thirteenth century. It was one of the fortresses belonging to the powerful Benalio Family, Lords of the San Martino Valley, who ruled over the village of Rossino between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. It was later passed on to the Rota Family, gradually losing some of its prestige over the passage of time until the end of the nineteenth century when it was adapted into a manor house. The complex is encased within a crenellated enclosure that includes a large rectangular farmhouse, as well as a spectacular, perfectly preserved stone tower dating back to 1200, which stands at the highest point of the hill and rises four floors high. It is a solidly constructed building with well-crafted corners and has rounded arch windows and a gabled roof.
