Villa La Consuma

Beds: 24

With its large terraced garden and swimming pool, Villa La Consuma is situated in the oldest and highest part of the small village of San Giovanni d’Asso, located in the Asso Valley on the border between the Crete Senesi and the Val d’Orcia.

Despite its ‘central’ position, the Villa is extremely private and peaceful, and it is possible to admire the breath-takingly beautiful panorama from the terrace extending out over the garden.

La Consuma is an ancient family residence that still preserves the spirit and hospitality of homes from times gone by, but with all the conveniences required for modern living. The upstairs rooms are therefore air-conditioned, and the ground floor rooms have ceiling fans to cool the air during the summer season. There is a central heating system and a fireplace that works very well for the colder months. Wi-Fi connection throughout, meanwhile, enables guests to stay connected with the outside world.

There are eight double bedrooms served by seven complete bathrooms, which can accommodate up to 16 people in total. For larger groups, an additional small house called La Capanna is also available, which is located on the border of the garden and has a separate entrance. It has 3 air-conditioned bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and can accommodate 5 people and a child aged up to 12 years old. It also has its private outdoor space with a small pool.

At Villa La Consuma, there is plenty of room for everyone to find their own cosy spot to read, meditate or simply relax and experience the coolness of the swimming pool.

The beautiful surroundings invite visitors to enjoy pleasant and leisurely excursions without having to travel too many kilometres: Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia and Montepulciano are all in the close vicinity.

Dinners and cooking lessons can be held at the Villa with the help of a very skilled cook, and wine and truffle tastings can be organised in the ancient wine cellar. It is possible to purchase exquisite olive oil, lovingly produced in accordance with the local traditions of our area.

The history of Villa la Consuma
The origins of La Consuma date back to the 14th century, when the building was part of the complex surrounding the Castle of San Giovanni d’Asso. In the 16th century, it was converted into an important residence for a bishop of the noble Borghesi family of Siena; some members of this family subsequently moved to Rome, where they changed their name to Borghese (Camillo Borghese, known as Paolo V, went on to become the Pope). The coat of arms with the winged dragon symbolising the Borghesi family, can in fact still be observed on the façade of the Villa.

The large terraced garden was designed in the 18th century by a member of the ancient Sansedoni family from Siena who were living there at the time. Later, in the 19th century, the Villa was renovated by the Pannilini family, likewise Sienese nobles, who also owned the neighbouring castle, and who gave the Villa its current appearance.

La Consuma has belonged to our family since the beginning of the last century.
