In the early 1800s, the Dolcetti family, whose name could not have been more appropriate, was involved in the confectionery business in Venice, specializing in the production and sale of sweets and ‘dolci’. Among their many properties, they owned a large warehouse on the Calle dei Frati ai Santi Apostoli, which was initially used as a storage facility for their finished products. In 1885, it was enlarged, renovated and transformed into an inn which they called the “Hostaria”. Around 1890, the inn was further expanded with the acquisition of the house next door and evocatively renamed “Albergo Giorgione”, immediately conjuring up connotations of the former glory of this sublime and rather mysterious painter who was being discussed in salons all around Europe. The hotel has been lovingly managed and maintained by the family from that day forward until the present day when the current owner, Signora Cecilia Dolcetti, married Luciano Pasotto who was originally from Verona. Together, they have become the driving force behind transforming Hotel Giorgione into a glorious 4- star boutique hotel, with such great success that the hotel now belongs to the exclusive ‘Abitare la Storia’ chain, reserved for prestigious accommodation with exceptional historical significance.
